March in cornwall

The snowdrops on the Cornish hedges peeping out, bigger than I thought they would be, unassuming and drooping whilst glistening white against the green grasses and hedgerow plants. The upright golden yellow narcissi standing with the help of the nutrients of the bulb erect and proud. Lighted up the embankment with a golden blanket of colour. And there are the Celandine, beautiful yellow flowers that arrive late February. It always amazes me these spring flowers where they come from and where they go. To arrive so suddenly even though the process unseen is taking place in a dark place away from gazing eyes. I wonder in awe of their appearance, to brighten my days and take comfort from their beauty and ability to continue amongst the adversity and manoeuvrings about the ground.

Well the sun arrived late February after it felt like months of overcast rain and mizzle. Lostwithiel in particular has a fog which envelops the valley. Especially in the morning when the sun rises and the haze of the night before stays floating above the River Fowey. It slowly evaporates as the day progresses. Clarity arises as the day is forced into action. These are the best days when it feels like transformation has taken place as the sun and energy changes with the progress of the day. Admittedly when the overcast weather remains this transformation seems stunted, in limbo, stuck. So I welcome the March brightness and cold with open arms as it feel fresh, renewed and is the start of something….
